Geoengineering Impact Studies
Geoengineering of regional or even global climate as well as regional weather modification are becoming more and more important in the era of climate change. For instance, the 1.5 degree report of the IPCC demonstrated that not only a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions but also an extraction of CO2 from the atmosphere are needed in order to maintain the 1.5 degree goal with high confidence.
In this connection, our model system can be designed and optimized to study the following effects:
-
Solar radiation management approaches
-
Carbon dioxide removal technique
-
Land surface modifications, e.g., by change of vegetation properties and coverage
-
Terrain modifications
-
The flooding of depressions for mitigating climate change and its connection to changes of the environment.
Combinations of these techniques are also possible and can be discussed with our team.
